Supporting Your Breeding Program

Breeding your dog or cat is a significant responsibility that requires careful planning and expertise to ensure the health of both the mother and the offspring. Our Breeding Services are designed to assist you throughout the breeding process, from optimizing conception rates to providing medical support during delivery. We offer comprehensive services including Reproduction Planning, Vaginal Cytology, and Caesarian Section procedures to help make your breeding experience as successful and smooth as possible.

Reproduction Planning

If you’re looking to improve conception rates in your breeding program, we can assist you in determining the optimal time for breeding. Accurate timing is crucial to the success of pregnancy, and we use two reliable methods to help pinpoint the best time for breeding:
  • Vaginal Cytology: This involves taking a swab of the vaginal cells and analyzing them under a microscope to determine the stage of estrus. Multiple swabs are often required for accurate results.
  • Blood Test for Luteinizing Hormone (LH) Surge: A simple blood test can help us identify the luteinizing hormone (LH) surge, which indicates the precise fertile period.
  • Progesterone Testing: Monitors hormone levels to accurately time breeding and confirm ovulation, improving the chances of a successful pregnancy.

Additionally, before estrus, we recommend performing thyroid analysis and other tests to rule out any potential issues that could affect your dog’s reproductive health. These tests ensure the best chance of success and help us address any concerns before breeding.

If you need guidance with your breeding program, please call to schedule an appointment with one of our veterinarians.

Caesarian Section

Most animals give birth without any complications, but there are times when mothers need assistance. If medical therapy fails to resolve delivery complications, a caesarian section (C-section) may be necessary to safely deliver the puppies or kittens.

During a C-section, the mother is placed under anesthesia, and an incision is made along her abdomen and uterus to carefully remove the unborn offspring. In some cases, we may also recommend spaying the mother during the procedure, especially to prevent future complications with pregnancy or birth.

Our team is experienced in performing C-sections safely and efficiently, ensuring both the mother and her babies receive the best care possible.
